ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the role of twitter as a tool for political education. This study was motivated by the 2020 Endsars protest which metamorphosed from an online protest to a physical protest. The study employed the descriptive survey methodology. A total of 230 respondents were enrolled as participants in the study. Ikorodu area of Lagos state was specifically surveyed. The findings from the study showed that twitter has to a significant extent being a a tool for political education. In the Nigeria context, the twitter application has allowed access to freedom of expression. It has become a tool where the masses hold their leaders accountable virtually. It has also fostered interaction between tribes, regions and institutions. It has been used to address policies and activities that the people consider ill-focused or that do not well capture the interest of the people. Twitter has had its negative effects; from virtually bullying to hate speech but its benefits out-weighs its demerits.
